Nowadays it’s not unusual for fashion brands to leave their stamp on the world’s international design fairs – be it Salone de Mobile or Design Miami. Finding interior design talent during the fashion show circuit, on the other hand, is a big win. So you can imagine our delight when we came across new Brooklyn studio Social + Studies, founded by fashion designer Hillary Taymour of American label Collina Strada, during NYFW.

‘Social + Studies is an outlet for me to experiment with my design and not be confined by a season,’ explains Taymour, whose first collection of asymmetrical mirrors accompanied her A/W 2015 presentation. ‘For me it is all about redefining shapes and objects.’

During this September’s S/S 2016 collections the 28-year-old cemented her initial object offering with a trio of sleek stools composed of Carrara, Rojo Alicante and Negro Marquina marble, paired with stainless steel, brass and copper frames.

‘I recently purchased a home in Williamsburg and went through a tumultuous renovation,’ she says of the impetus behind Social + Studies’ inception. ‘That really pushed me into industrial design and led me to imagine custom pieces with which to create a setting for the Collina Strada character.’
